5 Christmas Lights Alternatives (That Are Very Alternative)

Traditional Christmas lights are great for getting anyone in the holiday spirit, but sometimes you want something a little extra, you know? Something new. Something maybe a little unconventional. Yes, I know that string lights are a staple in many homes around the holidays, but I think that it’s time that we create new traditions. Ones that you might have to explain to confused onlookers, but traditions nonetheless.

If you’re ready to rethink your holiday decorating this year and take things to the next level, here are a few fun alternatives to Christmas lights that’ll keep things merry and bright in fresh ways.

1. Panel Lights

Hear me out: instead of wrapping your tree with lights, just stick a few ceiling panels between the branches. Think of it like decorating a parade float—the more the merrier. It’s modern. It’s definitely bold. It’s possibly a hassle if you live in a small apartment, but this year, we are making a statement with our holiday decorating. This statement might scream “I’m a Sunco superfan” but isn’t that the spirit of the holidays? Love?

2. Table Lamps

The best thing about Sunco table lamps is that they are cordless, so you don’t even need to plug them in. Just stick them in your tree and turn on their breathing mode for a nice, shimmery effect. Their warm glow is the perfect addition to any Christmas set up. The best thing about the table lamp is its flexible filament inside—it flops around in the tube when you shake the lamp, making some really unique shapes. If you have a cat that likes to jump on your tree, these are the best option for you - Because every time your furball rattles your tree, the lights will move with each shake. What fun!

3. Exit Signs

They’re red and green, right? Those are Christmas colors! These are arguably the most festive product in our catalogue. If you alternate between the red exit signs and the green ones, you basically have the perfect holiday decor. If you get the ones with added emergency lights on the sides, you can really make a statement. It’s also a great way to say to Santa, “you may enter through the chimney, but please find your way out through the front door.

Ok ok, so those aren’t exactly the most viable options for your Christmas tree, I know. I mean, if you can stuff some table lamps in your tree, we’d love to see it. But if you’re really looking to light up your space in a fun way without traditional string lights, there are still some options.

4. Sunco Smart Lights

I believe that every bulb is beautiful. That said, sometimes you need to go the extra mile with RGB smart lights. Smart lighting options can allow you to set up dynamic lighting scenes you can control from your phone or a voice assistant. You can simply put smart bulbs in your lamps, or you can even install a fresh set of smart downlights in your living room. Imagine your home switching up the mood lighting from “cozy winter cabin” to “electric disco sugarplum fairy rave” with the tap of your phone screen.

5. Outdoor String Lights

Okay, so this one is still string lights, you got me there. But not the standard ones you’re thinking of. Sunco string lights are durable LED options that can shine steadily without overheating or tangling into oblivion like standard Christmas lights. They’re a mellow but upgraded take on tradition.

Final Thoughts

It’s about time we change up the Christmas lights game, and Sunco knows just how to do that. Who needs plain old string lights when you have our entire catalogue to choose from? Whether you’re embracing Sunco’s smart lighting or just getting crazy with ceiling panels, there’s no limit to what you can do with our catalogue of lighting products. Mix and match ideas, and don’t be afraid to think outside the string-light box this season. Happy decorating!
